SSI Divemaster Course in London
The Divemaster rating is the first professional level in diving — the point where you stop being a guest underwater and start being responsible for other people. Working one to one with an SSI Instructor, you sharpen your own diving until it looks effortless, then learn to spot and solve other divers' problems before they become incidents. You finish able to guide certified divers, teach SSI Ecology programmes and assist an instructor during training.
What it takes
The Divemaster rating is reached in two steps. Every number below comes from SSI training standards.
- Step one — Dive Guide
- 40 verified or logged dives, plus certifications in Deep Diving, Navigation and Night & Limited Visibility — or at least five logged dives in each of those areas — plus Diver Stress & Rescue.
- Step two — Divemaster
- A minimum of 60 logged or verified dives totalling 40 hours underwater, the Dive Guide certification, and the Science of Diving programme with its digital final exam.
- Science of Diving
- Physics, physiology, decompression theory and the aquatic environment, studied online. SSI suggests 8 to 12 hours. Priced separately at £150 if taken on its own.
- Maximum training depth
- 40 metres.
